Accounting & Finance Recruiters in Salt Lake City

Accounting & Finance Recruiting

We recruit accounting and finance professionals for Salt Lake City employers, from accounts payable and staff accountants through controllers, FP&A, and CFOs. Our office is here, on 1300 East, and it has been since 1992.

That matters more than it sounds. Several of the firms advertising accounting recruiting in Salt Lake City run the search from another state. We have spent three decades inside this market, which is why we already know which controllers are open to a conversation, what it takes to move a senior accountant off a team they like, and where a Utah offer will land before you make it.

The work splits two ways. When the need has an end date — a close, an audit, a system implementation, a leave — our temporary staffing division places interim finance professionals. When the seat is permanent, our professional placement team runs the search. Most clients eventually use both.

Temporary and Contract Accounting Staffing

Finance work is not evenly distributed across the year, and most teams are staffed for an average month rather than a peak one. Temporary accounting support closes that gap without adding permanent headcount.

The requests we see most often in Salt Lake City are audit preparation, year-end and quarter-end close support, accounts payable backlogs, payroll and 1099 season, ERP and accounting system implementations, and covering a parental or medical leave. Each of those has a defined start and finish, which is exactly the shape of work a contract professional does well.

Contract-to-hire is the third option, and it is the right one more often than employers expect. If a busy season is exposing a gap that has actually been there all year, a contract-to-hire arrangement lets you evaluate someone on real work before committing to a permanent seat.

We qualify finance talent continuously rather than starting from scratch when a request arrives, so interim roles generally move faster than permanent ones. How much faster depends on the seniority and the systems involved; an AP specialist is a different search from an interim controller who needs to walk into a close.

Direct-Hire and Finance Leadership Searches

Permanent searches run differently. We start with the hiring manager, not the job description, because the description usually lists duties while the hire actually needs to solve specific problems in its first year.

From there the search is deliberate. We work our own network first, since the strongest accounting candidates in this market are employed and not applying. We verify credentials, interview for technical depth rather than keyword matches, and check references carefully. You receive a short list of people worth your time, not a stack of resumes forwarded in volume.

For CFO, VP of Finance, and other leadership seats, the search runs through our executive search division, which is built for confidential and retained work.

Screening for Systems, Not Just Titles

Two candidates with the same title can be a poor substitute for one another, and in accounting the difference is usually the systems. Someone who has closed the books in NetSuite every month for four years is not interchangeable with someone who has only ever worked in QuickBooks, and a resume rarely makes that clear.

We screen for the environment as well as the skill: the ERP and accounting platform, the reporting tools, the complexity of the close, and whether the candidate has worked at your scale. The systems that come up most often in Salt Lake City finance searches are NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics, Workday, SAP, and Oracle, along with Excel depth that goes well past formatting.

Tell us which of those are genuine requirements and which are preferences, and the shortlist gets considerably sharper. It is one of the few things a hiring manager can do at the start of a search that reliably shortens it.

Hiring Around the Finance Calendar

Timing is the part of accounting hiring that employers most often get wrong, and in a tight market it is expensive.

November through April is one long stretch of deadlines: fourth-quarter and year-end close, auditors and their request lists, W-2s and 1099s at the end of January, partnership and S corporation returns in March, corporate and individual returns in April. Contract help booked in October arrives before the peak. Contract help sought in January is being interviewed during the weeks it was meant to relieve.

Permanent searches run on the inverse calendar. Experienced accountants are reluctant to resign mid-close or mid-audit, and first-quarter bonuses hold people in their seats through spring. A controller search launched in January will often find its strongest candidate in late spring, which is worth knowing before you set a start date you cannot meet.

What You Get From a Firm That Is Actually Here

Our accounting and finance recruiters work these searches exclusively. They know what month-end close involves, what SEC reporting demands, and what distinguishes an FP&A analyst from a senior accountant, so candidates are qualified on substance rather than on the words in a resume.

Being based in Salt Lake City also means we can meet you, and we meet candidates. Thirty-plus years of placements in this market has produced something an out-of-state firm cannot replicate on a phone screen: we know the finance teams, the public accounting alumni networks people move through, and the reputations that never appear on a resume.

The Salt Lake City Market

Hiring in Salt Lake City

Utah’s labor market remains tight, which shapes every accounting search in the valley. The Utah Department of Workforce Services reported a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 3.5% for September 2026, unchanged from August and well below the national rate of 4.2%. Statewide nonfarm payroll employment grew an estimated 1.4% over the preceding twelve months, adding roughly 25,200 jobs, with professional and business services among the three leading sectors.

The same release noted that employers are taking a more selective approach to hiring. In practice that produces a market where qualified finance professionals have options and employers are being careful, and searches stall in the middle when a role is scoped loosely or an offer is slow.

The constraint is sharpest at the senior end. There is a limited pool of experienced controllers, senior accountants, and FP&A professionals along the Wasatch Front, and the strongest of them are not reading job boards. Reaching them takes an existing relationship and a credible reason to take the call, which is the part of this work that cannot be rushed or outsourced to a posting.

FAQ

Common Questions

Do you place temporary accounting staff in Salt Lake City?

Yes. Our temporary staffing division places interim accounting and finance professionals across the Salt Lake City area for audits, year-end and quarter-end close, AP and AR backlogs, payroll and 1099 season, system implementations, and leave coverage. Assignments run from a few weeks to several months, and contract-to-hire is available when you want to evaluate someone before making a permanent offer.

What accounting and finance roles do you recruit for?

The full finance organization. That includes accounts payable and receivable specialists, bookkeepers, payroll administrators, staff and senior accountants, revenue and cost accountants, FP&A analysts, tax professionals, internal audit, assistant controllers and controllers, and finance leadership through VP of Finance and CFO.

What is the difference between an accounting staffing agency and an accounting recruiter?

In practice the terms overlap, and firms use them interchangeably. The distinction worth asking about is whether the people running your search specialize. A generalist agency fills accounting roles alongside everything else. Our accounting and finance recruiters work only these searches, which is what lets them qualify a candidate on technical depth instead of matching keywords.

Do you place bookkeepers and entry-level accounting staff?

Yes. Bookkeepers, accounting clerks, and AP and AR specialists are among the roles we place most often, on both a temporary and a permanent basis. These searches frequently move quickly because we maintain active relationships with qualified candidates in the Salt Lake City area rather than beginning a search from nothing.

How long does it take to fill an accounting position?

It depends on the role. Temporary and contract placements in AP, AR, payroll, and staff accounting are generally the fastest, because we qualify candidates ahead of demand. Senior and technical searches — an interim controller, an SEC reporting specialist, a CFO — take longer, and the finance calendar affects them as well. We give you a realistic timeline at the outset rather than an optimistic one.

What does it cost to work with your accounting recruiters?

Direct-hire and contract engagements are priced differently, and the terms depend on the role and the scope of the search. We quote before any work begins, so you know the cost and the terms in writing up front. Candidates are never charged; our engagement is with the hiring company.

Do you recruit for finance roles outside Salt Lake City?

Yes. Salt Lake City is our headquarters, and we recruit throughout Utah — including Davis, Weber, and Utah counties — as well as nationally for clients with offices or remote finance teams elsewhere.
